West Allis is the working-class heart of Milwaukee's near west side, home to State Fair Park and block after block of well-built bungalows and Cape Cods. The downtown along Greenfield Avenue has been coming back, and the housing is some of the most attainable close to the city.
It is a natural first-home city: manageable lots, garages, and neighbors who have been there for decades. I look closely at basements, electrical, and the age of the mechanicals, because that is where a good deal here is won or lost.
